For this series of work I looked at combining the old and new. For this I researched photographs of how my home town of Leeds had once looked. I then revisited these placed and took the same photograph again. I wanted these two time periods to sit side by side in my work. In the style of David Hockney’s photo collages, I layered the new on top of the old. I then moved on to create more sculptural pieces of work from these photos, still in the same style I had the pictures printed on to Perspex and then suspended in front of one another. I felt this allowed the viewer to question the gap in-between the two times which I actually found one of the most interesting aspects of the pieces.
Moving on from this I created a more personal series looking at my own family and childhood not just the city in which I grew up. This was just as effective and having multiple photos from different years showed the progress of change giving a more understandable and relatable feel to the work.
